KidLink and Letter Pop

I was doing the assignment for our class and searched the site http://www.kidlink.org/ This is a great site for both students and teachers. It allows for students to create profiles, like myspace, but the can connect with kids from all over the world. Plus it allows parental control so parents do not have to fear who is using the site and can see what their kids are doing. It promotes multi cultural learning and allows collaboration on projects across many contents. Letter Pop is a great web site that allows you to design wonderful newsletters with many great templates and allows you to use pictures to make creative newsletters. Here is a sample of what I did. Check out these sites!

The Ideal Teacher

This is a chart we made using the web site gliffy.com. It is a great site for creating charts. This spells out what skills we feel an ideal teacher must posses. The ability to speak another language, know the standards of the state, belief in equal treatment, be aware of global issues, be aware of students well-being, and differentiate instruction. You can see a more detailed chart at my web site http://emsboss.wetpaint.com/

Who I Am as an Educator

I took the survey that was provided on our class website to find out what kind of educator I am. I learned that I scored in the Humanism type. Humanism is rooted in the writings of Jean Jacques Rousseau. Humanistic educational theory is concerned with enhancing the innate goodness of the individual. It rejects a group-oriented educational system and seeks ways to enhance the individual development of the student. I guess for the most part that is my feeling on education. There is a natural tendency for people to learn, which will flourish if nourishing, encouraging environments are provided. It was interesting to find this out about yourself and look forward to learning more as I go forward.

Week 1: And We're Off!!

Well here I am again, back at my blog! This is old hat for me as I am a veteran of Dr. S's class. Our first meeting as a class went well. We learned about what this class will cover and I hope to get a lot out of this class. Schools are always changing and we as educators must change as well. I look forward to discussing topics with all of my new classmates and learning from them and their experiences. We meet in our individual groups and my group seems to be well prepared and on the ball. I look forward to working with the ladies and hope we have nothing but a positive experience. We met last night and all-in-all it went smooth. We chatted about our up-coming power point assignment and We have a direction to finish the task. Looks like it will be a busy couple of weeks but I hope to rise up and meet the challenges ahead!
